Commonwealth Games Head Office Fitout
In the above video, at 1hr 38.30 mins the president of the Commonwealth Games welcomes John Howard (Prime Minister), Steve Bracks (Premier of Victoria) to which the crowd is mute (actually Matt recalls booing), then the Lord Mayor John So is announced; a glorious moment in Melbourne’s history. John So had been the champion of CH2, and Matt’s boss at that time.
Matt was the project manager of the Commonwealth Games Head Office project, as facility for 2,000 staff in the Melbourne’s World Trade Centre (which had been home to the temporary casino)
It was here that Matt first met David Pitchford who was the COO of the Commonwealth Games. Matt introduced David to Maria Atkinson with the aim of making the operations of the Commonwealth Games emulate those of the 2000 Sydney Olympics (the Green Games), in particular the athlete’s village. Interestingly enough, Peter Burke was the project manager of the athletes village (who would later be a client of Matt’s in 2017).
Matt also have the privilege of meeting the late Ron Walker, who headed the games’ Organising Committee among his many other highly influential roles.
